Final Review:
Van der Valk Utrecht—a place where the portions are as grand as the ambiance, and the bill has the potential to make you rethink your life choices. But let’s break it down properly.
Yemoe had a culinary field day with the Uitsmijter Carpaccio, noting the generous portion size that screamed ‘value for money.’ No notes, just satisfaction. Meanwhile, Yuva nearly ascended to food nirvana over the kip satay, though their IT budget took a hit, reminding us that while Van der Valk is delightful, it’s not quite an everyday affair.
Alex had a five-star taste experience, thanks to the accommodating staff who whipped up a vegetarian dish not even on the menu—proof that luxury can come with a side of flexibility. Martijntje found the food to be solid across the board, with a good ambiance and friendly service, keeping things consistently pleasant.
Then there’s Martijn, who was transported into a world of ‘grandeur,’ only to be yanked back to reality by a 14-euro sandwich. Sure, the Mackerel Americain was nice, but the existential crisis over a blob of mayonnaise was real.
The service is warm, the portions can be generous, and the ambiance is top-tier. However, the price tag ensures that this remains a ‘treat yourself’ destination rather than a casual lunch spot.
Bonus points were added for the generous portions, exceptional service, and luxurious atmosphere, bringing our corrected final rating to 8.5.
